“Focus on being productive instead of busy.” - Tim Ferriss

Today was my first day back at work after six weeks off. I was so busy this summer, and even though I did not get to check off all the items on my to-do list, I am very proud of what I accomplished these past couple of months. I was also very pleased to have spent time with my family. Family is everything; work and money are pointless if you have no one to share them with!

I spent most of my time working for my clients on Upwork. I am so lucky to continuously find freelance opportunities on the platform. Just when I think things are about to slow down a bit because I'm wrapping up projects, I get contacted by either an old or a new client! I am not complaining, I love it. I really enjoy what I do and being able to expand my translation portfolio. I was putting in about ten hours a week of freelance work. It does not sound like much, but considering I had so many other things going on, it was perfect. One of my most stimulating projects has been translating websites for a particular client. Not only does it help me keep my linguistic abilities sharp, but I also learn so much about web development. No matter what field you are in, knowing any sort of software will always be a good skill to have.

The Alliance Française de Dallas also kept me very entertained. I got to learn how to use some marketing and communication tools, such as Canva! It was fun, and it was wonderful to help organize and market their awesome events. I participated in various activities, such as a concert by the French singer Armelle, a Bastille Day (July 14th) celebration at Dallas International School, and a private movie showing of "Fire of Love" at a local movie theater! I will continue helping them as best I can throughout the school year.

I made some progress on the book translation as well! I moved a little bit slower on that project since it isn't an urgent matter, unlike my other contracts. However, I'm halfway done with it and I do plan on completing it before the end of the year. Kevin, the author, has been so understanding and supportive. He is very much aware of my other responsibilities and he is just happy to know that his book will soon be available in two languages!

I was able to read a few books, but not as many as I wanted. I had to prioritize my clients and the Alliance. The two books that I did read, however, were written by a professional French basketball player (in French). I really enjoyed them because I grew up playing basketball and I also love going to Mavericks games at the American Airlines Center.

Like I said, I was unable to get to all of the items on my to-do list. For example, I didn't have time to take the ATA practice test. The good thing is that I'm in no rush. I'm already a professional translator, so the longer I wait to take it, the more practice I'll get, and the higher my chances will be of passing the exam. I do want to start maximizing my membership by attending more workshops and meeting more people, but I can only handle so much at a time! Things always work out anyway.

I also really neglected my hobbies. I was barely able to do yoga, although I did get some workouts in. However, I did not want to finish the summer without doing some art, so I will be doing a custom-made painting for a very special client this weekend! Be right back!
